Obama to tackle illegal immigrants from Ireland

By Noel McAdam
Wednesday, 1 April 2009

The majority of “undocumented Irish” young people living illegally in America come from Fermanagh and Tyrone, the Assembly had been told.

But new President Barack Obama intends to tackle the problem, according to Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness.

Reporting on his recent week-long trip to the US, Mr McGuinness said the issue came up constantly.

There is an estimated 2,500 to 3,000 illegal Irish in the US, with the majority coming from Fermanagh and Tyrone.

Mr McGuinness said: “The issue of the undocumented Irish came up consistently and persistently at many of the engagements in which we were involved.

“There is no doubt that it is a matter with which the new Administration will grapple.

“It is something that we would like to see resolved, because of the obvious pain and difficulty that it imposes, not just on people in the United States — whether from Derry, Fermanagh, Tyrone, Belfast, Dublin, Mayo or Kerry — but also because family difficulties occur, such as people dying,” the deputy First Minister added.

“Hopefully, the new Administration will find a solution sooner rather than later.”

I'm an American of Irish descent living and working legally in Ireland for the past three years. Despite the support the Irish government are seeking for undocumented Irish in the US, they are doing NOTHING for Americans here. I've been told (despite my qualifications and contributions to society) that I will not be allowed to keep my job or be issued a new permit to work here simply because I am a non-EEA national! This is madness! It's discrimination!

Indeed, we will take the Irish any day of the week. What is sad is that they are often pushed aside for the Latino ILLEGAL. Hey everyone, come on over - The Supreme Leader of the World has granted amnesty for all..And when you hear of those of us 'against illegal immigration' please, remember the world illegal is key. I will no longer defend us, we are a nation of laws; if only Mr. Obama realized that.

Obama and his stimulus package: New roads, new construction, new remodeling.

Has anyone taken note of the ethnic group most involved in these projects. It sure isn't the Irish.

Oh give it a damm rest, there shouldn't be passports and people should just be able to live and work where they want to move.

The governments want you to believe if there were no passports countries would be flooded with immigrants, but fail to tell you that people free to move anywhere will simply choose somewhere else to go and soon balance will be restored.

Oh WOW 3000 Irish immigrants in American, LOL, how many mexican? probably a quarter of a million.

i always wonder why there are so many people that protest our country and yet all of these people want to come to this country to live. i am confused?!

HA!!! I know a couple of "undocumented Irish" citizens, and they are dying to go home! Both have contacted the INS and asked to be deported, and were promptly told that they wouldn't be deported; they have to find their own way home. Contrast that with the illegals from Mexico-they so much as LOOK at INS, and they're on a bus headed back to Mexico, lol!
Not that I want my drinkin' buddies to leave the country, but its pretty bad when a person who wants to be deported can't get back home, lmao!

This is completely idiotic. The hypocrisy of the D.C. worrying about a few thousand Irish over the millions of Mexican, Salvadoran, Honduran and Chinese illegal nationals. Never mind the underground "gray" economy of illegal substances and human trafficking between these nations and the US. Stand up Ireland!!! My family three generations back are from county Cavin and Claire, where is the backbone Ireland? Are you going to let these wankers intimidate you? Now what have you gotten yourself into? Did those High Street bankers in Dublin pull the wool over your eyes? The borrower is always the slave to the lender. Ireland wake up! This is not the character of the stout, sensible Ireland my family came from.
So dig deep, counsel your children. Do not let them take the next generation for a similar ride. Start investing in the next generation, teach them to question current society, teach them to be leaders.

Irregardless who is /or who isan't in the United States/ It Would Be Un- American Not to Support people who would Contribute to society in a realistic manor/ for life that is their right, and nor be treated unfairly-against the already exodus that is allowed to come accross our bourders, and sink our economy/ that /now oue own homeland, people cannot compete for jobs/ or the welfare by manipulated savvy people, give to the same human life that is abused because of our laws/ as we are a country Of laws that can give to any un-citizen the same help that would be reserved to large extent Americans naturalized.

I used to live in USA (legally by the way) and as far as I am concerned "His Barackness" himself is a illegal alien.
I give You a collection of links to explain what I am talking about. Dont worry about strange looking words in the link - they just "founded stories" in Estonian.

Dont worry, Americans will soon be flooding out of the country
to seek asylum in Ireland. I you can't see the writing on the ten-city walls, it's because you can't afford glasses, either.

So.

A black president cannot stand for a mere 3,000 undocumented Irish in the United States.

Where's my shillelagh so I can beat him about the head and shoulders with it?

Let's see. How many Hispanics are illegal aliens in the USA???
Millions?
And they are going to be allowed to stay?

I am of Cherokee descent and just would like to say, if your not Native American (Indian) your an ILLEGAL immigrant. Over 50 million Indians (North and south Amreica) killed by 1870, and you pity the Jew and complain about Hilter but than again Hilter was a White man to. Remember the saying "The only good Indian is a dead Indian"

Gritty, moving and heroic...Billy plays captured life here

Scary movie? Their jaws were sore from laughing

Teenage boys love horror films and I have two who are in charge of the remote control in our house, so naturally there’s gore-a-plenty on the box most weekends. However, until recently one film was banned.
