Orange hall defaced and damaged in attack
Monday, 17 August 2009
The PSNI has appealed for information after an Orange hall was damaged in Bellaghy.
Dissident republican graffiti was daubed on the building on the Ballynease Road and drainpipes were damaged. Mid-Ulster DUP MLA Ian McCrea described the attack as “blatant bigotry”.
“People who attack Orange halls are not just attacking a property but displaying their hatred for Protestants,” Mr McCrea said.
“It is deeply worrying that there is so much bitterness towards Protestants and their culture in so many parts of Northern Ireland.
“Last Saturday, as families |attending the Apprentice Boys parade in Londonderry came home their cars were attacked, in Rasharkin Protestant families are being systematically targeted and throughout Northern Ireland Loyal Order properties are being attacked on a weekly basis.
“It is outrageous that against this backdrop the police is downsizing its physical resources in the Mid-Ulster area.”
The Bellaghy incident was reported to the police shortly after 11.30am yesterday.
Anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the area or has any information is asked to contact the police on 0845 6008000 or Crimestoppers 0800 555111.

Real Republicans??Loyalists ? they are going to paint Ulster into a united Ireland? RR- Why dont you play paint balling games with our loyalists louts. Just think you can fire green white and orange at your rivals. Loyalists can return the fire with red white and blue and everyone can go home happy!!!Its about time they got jobs earning money for their families, maybe house painting in the job sense? Maybe a 'job' sounds threating? sorry If I caused offence! I dont think throwing paint over orange halls or so-called loyalists breaking Roman Catholics windows is going to further what ever cause they invented in their heads. The price of peace is to 'work' for it in the right sense of the word!
