Paisleys pray with tragic liver patient

Former DUP leader Ian Paisley and his wife, Eileen, have visited a Newtownards teenager who is critically ill in hospital after binge drinking.

The Paisleys prayed with Gareth Anderson (19) during their visit to King's College Hospital in London last weekend.

He is being treated for liver failure and his family are campaigning to get him added to the transplant list.

Ian Paisley Jnr told the BBC his parents spent time with Mr Anderson's family and also met with hospital staff. “Gareth is in a very critical condition and the hospital is currently looking at ways of treating him,” he said.

The teenager was originally receiving treatment at the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald, but was later transferred to the specialist renal unit at Kings College. Doctors have said that he may only have weeks to live.
