Patrick Kielty and a whole host of celebrities will be getting on their bikes this year and cycling 1,000 miles to try and raise £1m for Sport Relief.

Kielty will be joined by the likes of Sport Relief veteran David Walliams, Jimmy Carr and Davina McCall on a non-stop relay from John O’Groats to Land's End, with a documentary broadcast on the BBC in the run-up to the Sport Relief Weekend on March 19-21.

Speaking at the launch, Kielty said: “As soon as I heard about the challenge from David Walliams I was all for it. I mean he swam the English Channel in 2006 and was automatically made a saint. Then Cheryl Cole climbed Kilimanjaro — automatic saint. So when I was asked I forgot about the good cause and vanity took over, I want to become a saint as well.

“All joking aside though, it is for a very good cause and though it is going to be a very gruelling challenge I imagine it will be great craic with all the people that are doing it. Am I prepared for it? Not exactly, no.”

Closer to home the Belfast Telegraph has teamed up with the fund-raiser to give local organisations the chance to apply for their share of a £1m fund raised through Sport Relief. The Community Cash initiative will distribute £62,500 worth of grants to communities across Greater Belfast. Applications can be accessed below.

Gritty, moving and heroic...Billy plays captured life here

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times ... Sunday's 30th anniversary screening of the seminal Too Late to Talk to Billy was riveting viewing. But it wasn't nostalgic viewing.

Parties need better defence in Stormont's game of two halves

Surprise, surprise. Peter Robinson has been to his first gaelic match, Martin McGuinness is heading for Windsor Park and the Ulster Unionists have scored another own goal.

Why trying to go on a diet is never really a piece of cake

Some people make New Year’s resolutions, I make lists. Every new year I determine to keep track of everything I spend and everything I eat and drink.

Scary movie? Their jaws were sore from laughing

Teenage boys love horror films and I have two who are in charge of the remote control in our house, so naturally there’s gore-a-plenty on the box most weekends. However, until recently one film was banned.
