Agriculture Minister Michelle Gildernew has outlined plans for a cross-border event commemorating the Irish Famine.
The minister said she would be joining forces with Education Minister Caitriona Ruane to come up with ways to contribute to a famine commemoration in Ulster next year.
Responding to an Assembly written question by Sinn Fein’s John O’Dowd, Ms Gildernew said: “I wrote to Minister Ó Cuiv last year to congratulate him on the 2009 Famine Commemoration event held in Co Cork and to express an interest in how the famine might be appropriately marked on a truly national basis.”
