Police on the hunt for evil assault gang

Police are on the hunt for a baseball bat and pickaxe handle wielding gang who left a man seriously injured in Holywood.

The victim, in his early forties, was attacked at a house in Firmount Crescent just before 12.40am on Saturday.

He was rushed to hospital with serious head and leg injuries.

His condition was described yesterday as ‘serious’.

Another man, who was in the house at the time, was struck on the knee, but did not need hospital treatment.

Police said that the five man gang had been wearing dark-coloured clothes and balaclavas at the time of the attack.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old man has been hit on the head with a handgun during an assault at a house near Lisburn.

An armed man entered the house in the Glenbawn Park area of Lagmore at about 10.30pm on Friday and carried out the assault in Holywood, Co Down.
