Police were today treating the discovery of a woman’s body in Armagh as suspicious.

The body was found in the Boyds Row area of the city yesterday afternoon, however details were not released until today.

Detectives are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body and are appealing for witnesses.

A PSNI spokeswoman said police were currently unable to release any more details about the woman.

She added: “Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area or who can help police with their enquiries is asked to contact police in Armagh.”

Sinn Fein councillor Cathy Rafferty said the woman’s death will be a shock for people in the area.

“The Boyds Row area of Armagh is a very quiet area. I am sure news of this death will be a shock there,” she said.

UUP councillor Sylvia McRoberts said she hoped the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death were not sinister.

“There is very little information at the minute about what happened but I really hope there is not anything alarming."
