Police raid 20 houses in drugs operation

Over 20 houses in Co Antrim were raided as part of a major policing operation targeting drug dealers yesterday.

Six people were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences following the day-long blitz which was carried out on a number of addresses in Ballymena, Portglenone and Larne.

Around 100 police officers were involved in the operation which was mounted following public concerns regarding the sale and supply of illegal drugs in the area.

A police spokeswoman said large quantities of cannabis, cocaine, amphetamines, ecstasy, as well as prescription drugs, cash and drugs paraphernalia were seized.

North Antrim SDLP MLA Declan O'Loan congratulated police on the raid.

“This is the kind of response against drugs that I want to see,” Mr O’Loan said.

“It shows that the police have a lot of information about the drug scene which is what many of us believe.

“I congratulate the PSNI on this concerted action against those actively involved in the drugs trade.”

The police spokeswoman added anyone with information regarding the sale, supply or issue of major drugs is asked to contact their police on 0845 600 8000 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
