Pop icon to play Ulster

Kylie will play two dates at the Odyssey on Thursday, June 26 and Friday, June 27 2008

Kylie Minogue is set to make her long awaited return visit to Northern Ireland to play the Odyssey Arena next June, the Belfast Telegraph can reveal today.

The pint-sized Princess of Pop, who courageously battled breast cancer, will play two dates at the Odyssey on Thursday, June 26 and Friday, June 27 2008.

Details of the new tour were announced today to coincide with this week's release of Kylie's 10th studio album, X.

The Melbourne-born icon played five nights in Dublin in 2005 as part of her Showgirls tour - just before she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

She last played Belfast when she appeared at the King's Hall in the late 1980s, shortly after leaving Neighbours, but she hasn't been back since.

The tour will kick off shortly after Kylie celebrates her 40th birthday and will mark a spectacular return to form for the singer.

Her Showgirls tour had to be halted following her cancer diagnosis but after undergoing treatment and recuperating in Australia and in Paris, the home of her then boyfriend Olivier Martinez, Kylie made a recovery and resumed her Showgirls tour in November 2006, apologising to the audience for being " fashionably late".

The former Neighbours star launched her musical career in 1988 with the Stock, Aitken and Waterman track I Should be So Lucky, which went to number one in the UK charts.

Numerous singles followed, including a duet, Especially For You, with her Neighbours co-star and ex-boyfriend Jason Donovan, Better The Devil You Know and The Locomotion.

A celebrated style icon, Kylie reinvented herself several times throughout her career.

Her sound became more dance influenced in the late 90s, with Spinning Around - and those famous gold hotpants - giving her her first number one in the UK in 10 years.

Kylie also dueted with Robbie Williams on Kids and Nick Cave on Where The Wild Roses Grow, before releasing her mega hit Can't Get You Out Of My Head.

On Monday, she released her new album X, while her current single 2 Hearts, went straight into the top five in the charts.

Tickets to see Kylie in Belfast go on sale on Monday, December 3 at 9am, priced £55 (seated) and £49 (standing).
