Pork crisis: What the Health Minister is saying...
Monday, 8 December 2008
The Food Standards Agency for Northern Ireland has advised me that, based on the information it currently has, any health risk to the public is very low and would require high levels of exposure to these products for long periods.
The FSANI is an independent Government agency set up to protect the public's health and consumer interests in relation to food.
The health of the public is a major priority for me and I have required the agency to update me on any developments on this issue as a matter of urgency.
I am aware that the agency is due to hold a further meeting early tomorrow morning and I will await further advice from them on this situation. In light of this, it would be inappropriate for me to comment further at this stage.”
