Prince Philip mocks disabled comedian
Wednesday, 16 December 2009
After it was revealed that the Duke of Edinburgh mocked an Army cadet blinded in a Real IRA bomb attack, it has emerged that he has made another gaffe by mocking a disabled comedian.
The duke was asking Australian stand-up Adam Hills about his plans to return home for Christmas.
Spotting the comedian's prosthetic limb Prince Philip said: "You could smuggle a bottle of gin out of the country in that artificial foot."
Hills had been performing in Blackpool at the Royal Variety Performance earlier this month.
Hills, born without a right foot, said he wasn’t offended. He told the Daily Mirror he thought the remark was “brilliant”

As time goes on, Phil is no longer a asset as a P.R. man for the U.K. as time changes all.

Adam Hills is clearly a very intelligent and witty man and took the comment in the spirit with which it was said. He is probably sick to the teeth of people patronising him and being afraid of drawing attention to it. Seriously, would it not be worse if Prince Philip was all sympathetic but secretly couldnt give a toss. Why do people get offended on other peoples behalf - do gooders should but out.

I know a baseball metaphor is difficult for Europeans, but in America, we would say Phil was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple.

So what! The man in question wasn't offended so why should any of the rest of us?

Prince Philip reminds me of that one family member we all have who tries so hard to be witty and humorous but is 99% of the time not even close.

An old (funny) curmudgeon - I was sitting in a Judge's directions list yesterday (I am a lawyer and we like some gentle banter from the bench) and the Judge (old and curmudgeon) was not funny and no one was laughing as he tiresomely plodded his whining way through the list - I felt like stretching out on the chairs at the back of the court while I waited my turn. Maybe Phil has a black and wicked sense of humour. He is funny - fair play to him - even if he doesn't have a clue.

Honestly would people just try and gain a sense of humour, the only people who get offended by these "gaffs" are middle class suburban idiots. I think Phillip would make a great replacement choice for Frankie Boyle in Mock The Week.
