Private joint funeral for tragic Enniskillen couple
Monday, 30 November 2009
The grief-stricken children of tragic Enniskillen couple Anne and Bill Barbour are expected to gather in Belfast for their parents’ private funeral service today.
The service is expected to be a private occasion for close family members. Tributes have been paid by the couple’s four grown-up |children, James, Charlotte, Pauline and Tom in obituary notices which highlighted the couple’s 66 years of devoted marriage.
It is understood the couple will have a joint funeral at an undisclosed location.
Mrs Barbour (83), who had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for 10 years, was found dead at her Sligo Road home late on Tuesday night. A neighbour raised the alarm after he found a note on the door saying Mr Barbour had “gone to Rossole Lough”, a short distance from his home.
A post-mortem examination revealed the mother-of-four had been suffocated.
Mr Barbour’s body was recovered from Rossole Lough on Wednesday evening by a police search and dive team and sniffer dog following a day-long search on the lough.

With deepest sympathy to the family of Mr and Mrs Barbour. Alzheimers disease is so devastating and the fact that Mr barbour cared for his wife for so long is testament to a brave man. May they both rest in peace - a heartbreaking story of a love beyond all else.
