Pup left to die in bin
Thursday, 16 October 2008
A puppy has been rescued just moments away from an agonising death.
The Border Collie pup, named Blue, had been dumped in a compost bin and was almost crushed to death in a bin lorry before his frantic barking alerted rescuers.
The distressed animal was plucked from the bin and is now in the care of Banbridge dog lover Gillian McFadden.
Gillian, whose registered charity ‘The Doghouse Sanctuary’ has helped rehome and rescue numerous dogs, said: “There was no way out for the unfortunate pup who was trapped inside the bin.
“The dog was covered in fleas and ticks – the dog warden who told us about him was appaled.
“The pup had been dumped in somebody else’s bin – the lady who owns the bin was horrified as she has a dog of her own. This pup had obviously been dumped there to avoid detection. It’s an appaling case of cruelty.”
Blue has now become the Doghouse Sanctuary’s official mascot and will help publicise the issue of animal cruelty to young people.
“Blue will now be trained in agility and obedience and he will visit schools to raise awareness of the wanton cruelty there is in society,” said Gillian.
“Our goal is to make people aware of stray dogs, and appeal to anyone who wants to foster, clean or walk a dog to contact me, as we need all the help we can get.”

Well Done Gillian, A job well done keep up the good work.
I can think of some humans who should be put in the bin long before these little fellows.
Dog lovers ourselves with a Border Colllie full of life and love. Hard to imagine how low some people will stoop.

This is such a terrible thing to do, pets are here for enjoyment and to be looked after, anyone that can do such a thing is not fit to be called human

the person that did this, if they catch him should be put in a bin and keep him there for a few days so he knows how it feels

If someone does not want an animal there is no excuse to treat it like this! All they have to do is take it somewhere safe like an animal shelter.
Whoever treated this animal so cruelly could do similar to a person or child!
Thanks to however found Blue and rescued him.......

I cannot believe that people could actually even think of hurting animals like this.Animals are innocent and help heal many people. This is very serious and who am ever had done something like this should go to jail for many many years because to many people get away from horrific animal cruelty like this and should be punished to the full extent of the law.I am a firm believer of what Comes Around Goes Around and I am very happy to hear that Blue is now in good hands and is safe and secure.

Makes you think about what you would do to the person responsible for this. I don't think what I would like to do to him/her, is at all printable.

I agree with you Terry, but how do you know it was a guy. Women are just as capable of cruelty as men are. The people who do things like this are the ones you read about later who do other atrocities. As animal lovers, my wife and I abhor this acts to dumb and innocent animals.

How absolutely sickening and disgraceful!! An act of total inhumanity! Here, here to Terry and Liam!!

Sick people. I don't understand how people can do this sort of thing. Shows how far the human race has come in intelligence and morality if there are still people among it doing these kinds of things.

I strongly believe that much tougher sentences need to be handed down to those who are cruel to animals. Jail terms and/or lengthy and productive community service, instead of fines need to be implemented. Offenders should also be banned from having animals for life. It's about time there was a zero tolerance policy put in place for those who harm animals - these poor creatures are so innocent, loving and trusting, it's a huge abuse of power to hurt such helpless creatures. People who harm them are weak, spineless cowards who have nothing to offer. They are too eager to indulge already over-indulged children. They haven't the wit to acknowledge an animal is not a toy to be tossed aside when you realise it actually takes a degree of intelligence, humanity and gumption to care for it.

The guy who did this is fit for a bin - hopefully one that is used for storing battery acid!

The culprits of this act are lowest of the low and in my opinion they are a danger not only to animals but to other human beings, especially young defenceless children. I'm a firm believer of the old saying "what goes around, comes around" and I hope this person(s) get what they deserve.
