Friday, 14 November 2008
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will be presented with BlackBerry handsets during a visit to the global headquarters of mobile phone giant Vodafone today.
The Royal Party will be viewing an exhibition of the development of mobile phones over the past 25 years during a tour of the site in Newbury, Berkshire.
They will then be shown a small exhibition illustrating the impact of the flooding on the campus in July 2007 and the restoration programme while also meeting employees that were affected. The Queen and Duke will later watch a live link-up between Vodafone employees in Newbury and Mumbai, India from a videoconferencing pod.
They will be met by Sir John Bond, Chairman, and Mr Vittorio Colao, Chief Executive of the Vodafone Group. The Duke is due to officially open Vodafone's gym and dance studio and view examples of future use of mobile internet technology.
The Queen will then unveil the Vodafone "World of Difference" mural, before they are both presented with the BlackBerry handsets.
