'Anonymous' hacks Fine Gael website

Enda Kenny's Fine Gael extended its support, according to a new poll

Enda Kenny's Fine Gael extended its support, according to a new poll

Enda Kenny's much-vaunted new website -- complete with the Fine Gael leader's strange haircut -- was taken over by computer hackers last night.

The hacking meant Fine Gael's official website contained the slogan: "The problem with politicians is they lie."

The party shut down its normal website last week and replaced it with what Mr Kenny described as a "web connection point", inviting members of the public to make complaints or comments about what was wrong with the country.

Copying a trend in US and British politics, Mr Kenny features in a video asking people for their views -- without setting out any policies himself.

In the video, Mr Kenny has a bizarre quiff in his hair and sits in a coffee shop drinking a latte.

But the website went down last night when it was targeted by hackers.

The hackers went by the name of 'Anonymous', the same generic title used for cyber attacks recently on companies that refused to provide services to the WikiLeaks website, which published leaked US diplomatic papers.

The hackers put the following message on Fine Gael's website: "Nothing is safe, you put your faith in this political party and they take no measures to protect you. They offer you free speech yet they censor your voice. Wake Up."
