Boy killed by tractor in Co Offaly farm accident

A young boy has been killed in a farming accident in Co Offaly.

The accident happened in the village of Ferbane, just north of Birr.

It is believed the boy was involved in an accident with a tractor, at around 2pm this afternoon.

He was airlifted to hospital however died.

Gardai are investigating the incident.

It is the third farm death of a young child here in just matter of weeks.

Last month two-year-old David Roche drowned in a container of water on the family farm in Limerick.

And just last Friday a three year old boy died from crush injuries after apparently getting trapped beside a JCB in a farmyard in Cork.

Paramedics rushed the little boy to Bantry General hospital but, despite desperate efforts to stabilise his condition, he was pronounced dead.

16 people have died in farm accidents so far this year.
