Chef Jamie Oliver is preparing to dip his toes into the turbulent Irish restaurant scene as he opens a new eaterie in Dublin later this year.
The 36-year-old yesterday described the opening of the latest branch of Jamie's Italian at the Dundrum Town Centre this autumn as a "dream come true".
He will be hoping to avoid the fate of some other superstar chefs who have abandoned their Irish ventures in recent years, including Gary Rhodes and Jean-Christophe Novelli, and is pitching his new outlet as an "affordable" restaurant.
Prices in the UK branches include starters at around €6.50, steaks at almost €21 and side orders at around €4.50.
Up to 75 jobs will be created when the restaurant opens its doors in September or October and recruitment is already under way for senior chefs and managers.
Mr Oliver has already appointed local restaurateur Gerry Fitzpatrick of Fitzer's fame as his right-hand man in Ireland.
Work on the 4,500 sq ft restaurant in the Pembroke area of the Dundrum Town Centre will begin shortly.
Announcing the new eaterie yesterday, Mr Oliver said he will be championing independent Irish food producers.
"Jamie's Italian opening in Dublin is a dream come true for me because it's a city I've loved for many years.
"Anyone who has been to a Jamie's Italian in the UK knows that we're all about delicious, affordable food and great staff, so we're currently on the hunt for around 75 fantastic local people to join our team as chefs and front-of-house staff," he added.
Jamie's Italian already has 28 branches across the UK as well as outlets in Dubai and Sydney.
