Stormont politicians have united in condemnation of the murder of a Derry man believed to have been killed by a dissident republican faction.

Andrew Allen was gunned down through a window of his home in Buncrana, Co Donegal, after a group of men tried to break down the front door.

Sinn Fein Junior Minister Martina Anderson said the community in the victim's native city was outraged at the killing.

The attack, which took place last Thursday, has been blamed on the Republican Action Against Drugs group and came after the 24-year-old was intimidated out of Derry.

Assembly business was postponed to discuss the murder and MLAs from each party condemned the shooting of the father-of-two and appealed for the public to help police catch the killers.

This came as the victim was buried in Derry, where mourners at St Columba's Church, Long Tower, heard parish priest Fr Daniel McFaul brand the killing a meaningless act that had left a family devastated.

Ms Anderson told the Stormont Assembly: "People in Derry and across Donegal have spoken in a united voice in condemnation of what has happened.

"I think the rejection of those who murdered Andrew Allen has been heard by many.

"People who have any information at all should speak directly to the Gardai, or any other relevant authority."

The Foyle MLA said the murdered man's family were respected members of the community in the Top of the Hill area of the Waterside and had been devastated by their loss.
