Donegal honeymoon couple cut trip short to return for All-Ireland final

A GAA-mad couple from Donegal will quit their honeymoon this weekend — to fly home for the All-Ireland final.

John and Orla Sheridan will put their romantic break in Rome on hold to cheer on Jim McGuinness's men in their battle with Mayo at Croke Park on Sunday.

The couple — who had their wedding reception at Jackson's Hotel in Ballybofey last Saturday — will then fly back to the Italian capital on Monday.

John (31) is from Creeslough, and plays on the St Michael's parish team alongside county star Colm McFadden.

He even held his stag party in Clones, in Co Monaghan, so he could be at the Ulster final clash with Down.

Orla's sister, Mary Cooke, said the couple are complete GAA fanatics and haven't missed a game this year.

“They had their flights booked but didn't know if they were going to get tickets for the game,” said Mary (30), from Castlefinn.

“But when we got confirmation of tickets, they didn't think about it for one minute and were planning the detour back to Dublin for the game. They're only married a few days but there's already three in the relationship — Orla, John and football.

“It's going to be a great weekend and it would really get married life off to a great start if Donegal win the Sam Maguire. We just hope they're able to get back to Rome to finish their honeymoon.

“The craic here will be brilliant if Donegal win and they might have to finish their honeymoon another time,” laughed Mary.
