Sinn Fein members in Dublin West last night selected local man Paul Donnelly (42) to contest the upcoming by-election.
He was chosen at a selection convention in St Peregrine's GAA club in Blakestown.
Mr Donnelly said: "I'm looking forward to delivering the republican alternative to the people on the door-steps over these next few weeks."
Mr Donnelly is chairperson of Sinn Fein in Dublin and is a member of the party's Ard Chomhairle.
