The 24-year-old man died when his car ran into a ditch in Derrymore, Dunmore, Co Galway, shortly before midnight.
His body was removed to University College Hospital Galway for a post-mortem examination.
The road was closed for an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators and local diversions were in place.
Gardai have appealed for witnesses.
