The family of a young Irish woman missing in Australia have spoken of her recent trip home and told how they are caught in a “living nightmare” as they wait and hope for news that she has been found.
Jill Meagher went missing after a night out in her adopted home in Melbourne.
She was last heard of when she made a phone call to her family on the other side of the country in Perth. Her home is just minutes’ walk away but according to her husband, she never came home.
Her handbag was found in a laneway a short distance from the apartment she shares with her husband Tom.
Police in Australia are mystified about her disappearance and are probing reports of attempted abductions of women in the area recently.
Speaking from her hometown of Drogheda in Co Louth, her uncle Michael McKeon said that “the world has come to standstill” for her family in Australia.
“It is too early to think of the worst. People still have hope,” Mr McKeon said.
Her uncle said the family in Ireland have faith in the police investigation.
