Irish police in Co Offaly hope to interview a man today after he was shot by an 82-year-old pensioner who feared his home was about to be burgled.
Fearing he could be attacked, pensioner Eamon Sutton produced a legally held shotgun and hit his target on the thigh of his right leg.
The man, who is Polish and in his mid-20s, underwent surgery for his leg injury yesterday and was said to be in a stable condition.
Gardaí in Birr were told by hospital staff he was not medically fit to be interviewed until today.
