Fifty full-time jobs are being created with the opening of two motorway service stations.

Retailer Topaz said a further 200 building jobs will be created during the construction of the 8 million euro (£6.7 million) schemes on the M8 and M9.

The services will be located at junction 3 near Abbeyleix, on the Dublin to Cork M8 route, and near Carlow, at junction 5 on the Dublin to Waterford M9 route.

Work on the 600 square metre site (6,458 sq ft) in Co Laois will begin in January and is expected to be completed by next July.

Topaz is awaiting planning permission for the Co Carlow site, with work expected to begin on it next summer.
