A man in his late 30s has been arrested over the murder of a single woman found dead on a beach.
Deirdre McCarthy's body was found washed up on Fanore Strand in Co Clare last Thursday, five days after she went missing.
She had been attacked and murdered.
A Garda spokesman said the suspect was detained under section four of the Criminal Justice Act at Ennis Garda station.
Ms McCarthy, 43, was last seen at her home, Turlough House, near the village a week ago on Sunday.
It is believed Ms McCarthy died after being beaten when she returned home from a Ballyvaughan pub where she had been socialising.
Detectives suspect she knew her killer and may have been out with him in the bar.
