A post-mortem examination was carried out on the body of a woman found in her home on Sunday night.

The 51-year-old victim, named locally as Phyllis Black, had been attacked outside a chip shop on Parnell Street early on Sunday morning. Her body was later discovered in her flat in Liberty House, Railway Street, off Lower Gardiner Street.

A woman involved in the altercation approached Gardai following their appeal for her to come forward after they examined CCTV.

A pathologist is expected to determine whether the victim's death was linked to the incident.

It is understood Ms Black either fell or got knocked to the ground. She may have banged her head. She went to the Mater hospital but is believed to have left before being treated.
