A man has been charged with possession of explosives and IRA membership after a car carrying a suspect bomb was found parked outside a Dublin hotel.

Samuel Devlin (55), whose address was given as the Golf Suite at the Finnstown House Hotel, Lucan, Co Dublin, where the device was discovered on Saturday, was remanded in custody until June 3 after he appeared before Dublin's Special Criminal Court.

Devlin, who is originally from Northern Ireland, was arrested early on Sunday. Gardai and bomb squad officers had been called to Finnstown House, several miles from the city centre, where a wedding had been taking place.

The device was discovered in a Northern Ireland-registered car parked in the grounds.

The charges faced by Devlin state that the device contained a highly explosive substance.

The wedding guests in the hotel had to be evacuated from the building after the discovery was made and sent to a local pub to continue celebrations.
