Man hurt in pellet gun shooting

A man was shot with a pellet gun at a filling station in Co Mayo

A man has been taken to hospital after being shot with a pellet gun at a filling station forecourt.

The 20-year-old was standing outside the premises at Moneen, Castlebar, Co Mayo, when a car pulled up alongside him and the shots were fired.

Two pellets were lodged in the victim's back. Investigating gardai said a black Volkswagen Golf made off from the scene in the direction of Balla.

The incident happened at around 5.40pm on Sunday.

The victim was taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar by his brother. His injuries were believed to be minor.

Gardai are investigating whether the attack was linked to a family feud.

The scene was preserved for forensic examination.
