Man is treated for gunshot wound

Gardai are investigating after a man admitted himself to a hospital in Drogheda with gunshot wounds

A man is being treated in hospital after being shot in the arm.

Gardai are investigating whether the shooting is linked with a burglary at a farm, where the farmer's son let off a warning shot at a man running through a field.

The incident happened at Maryland farm in Kilsallaghan, north Dublin, on Thursday afternoon.

A 34-year-old injured man later admitted himself to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth, with gunshot wounds.

He was transferred to Beaumont where he underwent emergency surgery to his arm.

No arrests have been made.

Gardai said the owner of the farm was on holiday but when his son called to check the property at around 3.30pm on Thursday he noticed the house had been burgled.

He chased a silver Lexus car as it drove through the farm but when it got stuck the suspected burglar was picked up by an accomplice in a BMW X5.

Gardai in Swords are investigating and have forensically examined the Lexus.
