The body of a man believed to have been stabbed to death has been found in a ditch.
Detectives discovered the body during a planned search of open land in Tyrellstown, west Dublin, on Thursday afternoon.
The victim is believed to be a young man in his early 20s who has been missing for a week. He has not yet been identified.
The body will remain at the scene pending the arrival of forensic officers and the State Pathologist Marie Cassidy on Friday morning.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out on Friday afternoon.
Gardai have been searching the area for a number of days for the victim, who detectives fear was stabbed to death in a different area before his body was dumped in the ditch.
The body was found in a field close to Bellgree Avenue, Tyrellstown, in Dublin 15.
It is understood gardai in Blanchardstown launched a major search after a tip-off that a man had been stabbed and dumped in the area.
Gardai have appealed to anyone who may have seen anything unusual or suspicious in the last seven days around Bellgree Avenue or the nearby playing fields to contact Blanchardstown Garda Station.
