Missing Irish vet Catherine Gowing knew murder suspect

A missing Irish vet knew the Welshman who has been arrested by police on suspicion of her murder.

Catherine Gowing (37), from Clonlee, Co Offaly, has not been seen since she left work at a veterinary practice in Mold, north Wales, at around 7pm on Friday to drive the few miles to her home in New Brighton.

Police arrested a 46-year-old man on suspicion of murder as they launched a desperate search for the Irishwoman, admitting they fear she has come to “some significant harm”.

Detectives refused to elaborate on the exact relationship between Catherine and the suspect, who is an acquaintance of hers from Gwynedd in north-west Wales.

But he is understood to be well known to a friend of the young woman, and a frequent visitor to the New Brighton area.

Police also released a picture of Catherine's Dublin-registered Renault Clio car, which is also missing, in a bid to locate her.
