Former Oasis star Noel Gallagher returned to Dublin’s Croke Park this week almost 30 years after his GAA football-playing days which he abandoned for the lure of “birds, smoking, drinking and drugs”.

The 45-year-old rocker used to play hurling for his local team Oisin’s - Manchester champions - but were trounced when they played against an Irish team in Croker.

“We came over here to play an Irish team and we got leathered. We all played. I enjoyed it at the time. I was still at school then,” he said.

But he conceded: “Quite quickly after school was when smoking and drinking and birds and drugs take over. Football goes out the window then, doesn’t it?”
