A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on the body of a man who died six days after he was assaulted.
Gardai in Drogheda have appealed for information over the death of a 53-year-old in hospital on Tuesday.
He was involved in an altercation with a number of youths at the junction of Bessexwell Lane and Shop Street in the town at about 2.30pm last Thursday.
He was taken to the nearby Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and later transferred to Beaumont Hospital where he died.
The state pathologist has been notified and tests are due to take place at the City Morgue to determine the cause of death.
