Store chain to create 210 jobs

SuperValu took over Superquinn stores this year

The country's biggest supermarket chain SuperValu is to create more than 200 jobs this year with the opening of three new stores.

The company, which took over Superquinn stores earlier this year, last year recorded retail sales of 2.1 billion euro, a 1% increase on the previous year's figures.

SuperValu said it now has about a quarter of the market share.

It said it will open three new stores this year as part of a seven million euro investment by its independent retail partners which will see 210 jobs created.

Martin Kelleher, managing director of SuperValu, said: "SuperValu's success can be attributed to putting the customer first, investing in quality and staying true to our roots in communities across Ireland."
