Taoiseach Enda Kenny jokes at Gerry Adams' expense over IRA denial

Enda Kenny to Gerry Adams: 'Neither you nor I were members of the IRA or the IRA Army Council'

Enda Kenny today silenced Gerry Adams with a jibe about the Sinn Fein president not being a member of the IRA.

The Taoiseach was responding in the Dail this morning to a claim by Mr Adams that he was engaging in “extreme revisionism” with his version of the Government’s approach to the eurozone crisis.

The mention of revisionism by the Sinn Fein leader, prompted heckling and laughter from Fine Gael backbenchers, and a jibe from the Taoiseach on the day when former IRA commander, Northern Ireland deputy first minister Martin McGuinness, shook hands with the queen.

“One thing I have in common with you, and that is in the context of extreme revisionism, neither you nor I were members of the IRA or the IRA Army Council,” he said.
