Teenager sees angler father drown

A teenage boy saw his father drown on a mackerel fishing trip off Co Clare

A teenage boy has seen his father drown on a mackerel fishing trip off Co Clare.

The man, in his early 40s, fell in after his line became caught on rocks and he tried to climb closer to the shoreline to free it.

His son, believed to be 13, and several other anglers fishing off the cliffs witnessed the tragedy.

A Garda spokesman said the accident happened off Dunlickey, near Kilkee, shortly after 1pm on Thursday.
