A 56-year-old man has died after he was stabbed in a Dublin flat.

The knife attack happened shortly after 5pm on Thursday at Ballybough House in Dublin 1.

The victim was rushed to the Mater Hospital where he was pronounced dead at approximately 8.45pm.

Two men, aged 53 and 46 years, have been arrested in connection with this incident and are detained at Mountjoy Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

It is understood the three men knew each other and had been together for the day before the incident.
