Two people have been arrested by detectives investigating the murder of a pensioner in Donegal.

Seamus Doherty, 67, died in a house at Drumacanoo near the village of Churchill in the early hours of Sunday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to Letterkenny Hospital where a post-mortem examination revealed he died in suspicious circumstances and the case was upgraded to a murder probe.

A Garda spokesman said a man in his 40s was arrested on Wednesday evening and a woman in her 50s was taken in for questioning on Thursday morning.

They are both being detained at Letterkenny Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
