Two people have been killed in separate car crashes across the country overnight

Two people have been killed in separate car crashes across the country overnight.

Gardai in Co Wicklow and Co Kerry have launched investigations following the deaths of the two men, who were both alone in their cars.

A 40-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene in Aughrim, Wicklow, after his car hit a wall at around 3.40am on Sunday morning.

His body was taken to St Columcille's Hospital, Loughlinstown, for a post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old was killed in a single-vehicle crash on the N72 at Rathmore, Kerry, at around 10.50pm on Saturday night.

His body was taken to Tralee General Hospital where a post-mortem will be carried out.

Roads surrounding both crash scenes were closed for Garda investigations.
