The unemployment rate has remained unchanged at 14.8%, official figures have revealed
The number of people signing on for dole benefits has not fallen below this level since the start of the year.
A Central Statistics Office report also highlighted the dangers of long-term unemployment, with the numbers on the Live Register for one year or more up 5%.
Some 192,778 people are now on the dole for 12 months or longer, with the number of men up 3,354 in the year to September and the number of women up 6,025.
The report put the total on the dole last month at 429,335, down more than 8,000, but it also recorded the seasonally adjusted figure at 435,200, down only 400, as it takes into account employment fluctuations including temporary changes in employment and calendar effects.
