Woman 'moved after mother's murder'

Police are searching the sea for a dead Polish woman's husband following an incident in Co Kerry

A Polish woman found dead in her home came to Ireland after her mother was murdered in Poland.

The body of Katarzyna Bartowiak, who was in her 20s, was found in Tralee on Tuesday afternoon.

Her partner Stephen Godson-Ukiwo, 26, is believed to have jumped off a cliff into the sea near Ballybunion after a five-hour stand-off with garda negotiators.

A sea search involving the Coast Guard has found no trace of him.

Close friends revealed Ms Bartowiak emigrated to start a new life in Ireland after the tragic death of her mother.

Micheal Carr, friend and owner of the Golf Hotel in Ballybunion, claimed they were a happy couple, devoted to their two-and-a-half-year-old son Sean.

"She loved her children. She was a fantastic person," Mr Carr said.

"She saw Ireland as home, she saw Kerry as her county. She was a very, very caring person.

"They were a very happy couple and he would mind the child, he minded the child and he was happy to be in Ireland and to be in Kerry."

Ms Bartowiak came to Ireland in 2006 and took a year-long job with Mr Carr as a childminder the following year.
