A young woman is fighting life-threatening wounds after being stabbed in the grounds of a primary school

A young woman is fighting life-threatening wounds after being stabbed in the grounds of a primary school.

The 23-year-old victim was attacked in Ennis, Co Clare, at Station Road around 5.05pm on Saturday.

Another woman, aged 22, was arrested in connection with the incident.

The victim was rushed to Midwestern Regional Hospital where her condition is described as "life threatening".

Investigating gardai have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

The arrested woman is being questioned at Ennis Garda station under Section four of the Criminal Justice Act.

A Garda spokeswoman said: "A technical examination of the scene is underway and enquiries are ongoing."
