Robber holds screwdriver to man’s throat

A man has been threatened with a screwdriver during a street robbery in Belfast.

The incident happened at Townsend Terrace in the north of the city at about 10.25pm on Thursday.

The robber, who is described as being in his 20s, about 5ft 9ins and of medium build, held the screwdriver to the victim’s throat and demanded cash and a mobile phone. North Belfast councillor Billy Webb has condemned the robbery.

“This was an utterly despicable incident,” he said.

“This must have been deeply traumatic for the victim and my thoughts are with him as he tries to get over this ordeal.

“It’s difficult to comprehend how someone could actually bring themselves to do something like this. We need to get people who act in this way off our streets and we need the public’s help to do so.

“I would appeal to anyone with information on this incident to contact police immediately to assist them with their investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives on 0845 600 8000.
