Thursday, 11 March 2010
Rory McIlroy shares top billing with Tiger Woods and on the latest version of the world number one's top-selling PS3 video game.
The 20-year-old Ulsterman graces the cover of EA Sports' Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 game alongside the man himself.
The software company were one of the first of Woods' main sponsors to publically declare their continuing support in the wake of spectacular fall from grace last year.
McIlroy, along with countryman Darren Clarke, featured in the long-running games series for the first time in last year's version.
In the game players can play as or against the featured players and McIlroy has confessed to playing as himself on a PlayStation 3 in his hotel room whilst away on Tour.
This year's version of the game, which was first established as the biggest-selling golf video game in the business a decade ago, in not available until June.
And for the first time it will include the Ryder Cup, the biannual match between Europe and the United States.
The game is primarily aimed at the American market, and McIlroy is regarded there as Woods' natural successor as the best player in the world.
The Holywood player has taken out full membership of America's PGA Tour this year and this evening plays the first round of the CA Championship at Doral in Florida - a World Golf Championship event reserved for the game's elite players - with world number three Phil Mickelson.

Have to agree with sammy.
Media doesnt help blowing mcillroys trumpet at every turn.
he needs to keep a level head.
its good to see his attitude has changed since I faced him in Junior fred daly matches. He was cocky, rude and arrogant back then, lets hope that has changed and he can become a true great.

Mc Illroy will have to perform better than his 2010 start to be even considered a serious contender on the USA tour. Success has gone to his young head like Anthony Kim, they are far to cocky for their own long term success. Hundreds of wannabes have come and gone to replace Jack and now Tiger. Overnight sensations-- remember how Roran Rafferty was the next Jack. Rory is a long way from a repeat superstar.
At the moment just another young player with lots of potential.
