Security firm fined £2,500 for licence breach

Northern Ireland’s biggest security firm has been fined £2,500 for operating without a licence for nearly a year.

Maybin Support Services Ltd, now renamed Resource, breached the Terrorism Act 2000 by failing to renew its permit in October 2005. At the time it was guarding more than 20 courts and a number of Government departments across the province.

The lapse only emerged during the summer of 2006 when the company tendered to renew its £25m five year contract with the Northern Ireland Court Service. After admitting to a charge of providing security services without holding a licence, District Judge Fiona Bagnall yesterday said she was satisfied it was due to administrative errors and oversights.
