Semtex used in attempted attack on PSNI officers

Monday, 18 August 2008

The PSNI says semtex was used in an attempted bomb attack on two police officers in Co Fermanagh on Saturday.

The officers escaped serious injury when a grenade-type device was fired at them by suspected dissident republicans in Lisnaskea.

The PSNI says they would almost certainly have been killed had the device not failed to explode.

Deputy chief constable Paul Leighton says the semtex used in the attack was old and may have once been in the possession of the Provisional IRA.
