Shots fired in Waterside

Detectives in Londonderry are trying to establish a motive following a shooting at a house in the Waterside.

It is understood one man lives at the house in Eskaheen View but he was not at home at the time of the attack.Police were alerted at around 10pm after two shots were fired at a house in the Gobnascale area.

The gun attack is the second in the area in weeks. A PSNI spokesman said: " Police are investigating and would appeal to anyone who was in the area and who noticed any suspicious activity to contact them.

"They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who noticed a red Ford Mondeo car acting suspiciously in the area at the time."

Sinn Fein Councillor for the area Lynn Fleming last night described the incident as "worrying". She said: "The very fact that there is that sort of material in the community has to be condemned."

SDLP Waterside Councillor Martin Reilly added: "This was a very traumatic incident for the people of Eskaheen."
