Sinn Fein's Alex Maskey latest on loyalist hitlist
Thursday, 14 January 2010
Sinn Fein Assembly Member Alex Maskey is under a death threat from loyalists.
Police passed on the warning about the Orange Volunteers, a splinter paramilitary group.
They have already threatened senior Sinn Fein politicians including president Gerry Adams.
Mr Maskey said: “I will not allow any threat to detract me from my work as an elected representative.
“I will continue to carry out my work on behalf of those citizens in South Belfast who elect me to represent them at the Assembly and will not be deterred from this important work by threats of any kind.”
Sinn Fein MLAs Gerry Kelly, Francie Molloy and Caitriona Ruane have also been targeted by the group in recent weeks.

The police will now find in easier to arrest the nutters who do not want to find jobs and instead play the Orange card! The Orange order has come to terms with the fact that it can not be played any longer in the real world of Ulster politics! My advice is for the RIRA/Orange Volunteers is instead of looking for people to take your false sense of anger out on go and help other people! Do you really want to to hurt others to laugh at their pain and their deaths! Is that your pleasure in life I ask myself?

Orange Volunteers, is probably the correct name for these dissidents as they are, one would imagine, a group of sectarian Orangemen, keen on venting their spleen on anything Nationalist.
The quicker people grow up and realise that political assassination is not acceptable in modern society, or indeed, in any society, the better for all.
I shouldn,t imagine that any political party will disappear because some people eliminate their members. If anything, it would encourage more extreme elements to the fore and so the merry-go-round continues.
I am interested in the response of the Orange Orders to these threats, especially the all embracing Diamond Dan and his smiley countenance.

threats are an act of cowardice !
but its happening everywhere! its bullying and has to be stamped out
it,s time someone somewhere starts to speak out! and perhaps others will find the courage! anti social activity laws need expanding hows about a fixed penalty fine for improper use of vocabulary if you speed you get fined but its free to verbally abuse someone! the population of bullies don,t even comprehend the meaning of their
threatening dialogue

Who are these 'loyalists' when it is clear that the leadership of the two principal wings of loyalism have identified unionist politicians as the enemies of working class loyalist communities and not republican politicians? I am most puzzled at the identity of these hard done by 'orange volunteers'.

no one should be issuing threats ,those days we hope are gone, except for the few on either side who will never change

There is obviously two realists, so we will need to make a change, I will become C-realist.
Although, I support peace, it must feel weird the shoe being on the other foot, as these people spent their whole lives making other people feel the same-uncomfortable and stressed-if they survived. However, these are times of peace, and all dissidents should grow up, and smell the Roses.

I have, and consistently, condemn the actions of backward-thinking psychos. From your recent comments you would actually have people believe that this god-forsaken lot have more support than they actually have.
You are aware of the difficulty, and the length of time it has taken, to actually get a comment registered on the BT website over the last couple of days?

Realist - we are all getting tired of your one sided rhetoric.. give it a break already. This story happens to be about Loyalists issuing threats - or dont you read stories and just go straght to the comments page for a moan about nationalists. heres hoping you have no kids to bring up in your ways or we (all the people of NI) have no hope.

OK he can be annoying, but if we shot everyone that was annoying, there would be no-one left. Alex Maskey is where he is, because he was elected, when he is no longer required on the political scene, his people will tell him with the ballot box!
So instead of issuing death threats try filling out a couple of job applications instead!!!!

Where is Realist with his condemnation of these characters.

is this not the reaction the dissadents want , utter chaos again !!
for gods sake wise up

I say let them try and have a pop, they would not get any where near them. With out the British armys help loyalists are best sticking to talking. Less likely to shoot their own toes off that way.
