Stay away from Andrea Corr wedding, golfers told
Thursday, 23 July 2009
Golfers forking out up to £42,500 to join an exclusive resort in the west of Ireland are being told to keep off the grass on the day it hosts a lavish celebrity wedding.
Andrea Corr is expected to marry stockbroker Brett Desmond, son of billionaire Dermot Desmond, in a glitzy ceremony at the links course in August.
It is understood the event prompted bosses at the Doonbeg Golf Club to write a letter to members, asking for privacy.
The Co Clare coastal club has about 500 members who each forked out £42,500 to join and pay annual green fees of £3,340 for the privilege of a round.
The club declined to comment.
A spokesman said: “The club doesn't comment on any matters in relation to guests or potential guests.”
Andrea rocked to stardom in the early 1990s with her siblings Caroline, Sharon and Jim with the group The Corrs, releasing several hit singles and albums.
The couple are notoriously private and their wedding plans have been a closely kept secret.
Mr Desmond is regarded as one of Ireland's most successful entrepreneurs, with an estimated wealth of around two billion euro.
Doonbeg, overlooking the Atlantic, was designed by Greg Norman, two-time champion of the Open and PGA Tour player of the year in 1995 and who won the Vardon Trophy three times.
The club opened in 2002 and charges £42,500 to join up, but this is refunded when you leave.
Members are also asked to pay an annual fee, which ranges from a whopping £4,250 for families to £3,340 for Irish-based players and £2,295 for overseas members.

He's only a billionaires son - she could have done better !
I met the Corrs once in Manchester and they were charming
and intelligent and it was a pleasure to be in their company.

Think they should be told to sod off. Just a singer and her groom. No one special or terribly necessary for the good of mankind. They'll survive if someone is on the greens. Pathetic!!

what kind of a nonsense amount is that just to play golf! good grief no credit crunch in the world of golfers then.
If they're all so rich, why cant they get married somewhere that doesnt put anyone out! A hotel that doesnt have members as such and just book the whole place for the day!
Pah! people with money!

if i was a member of a club in which i paid £42k a year to be a member, nobody would be telling me what days i could play ,,and failing that i would be taking them to court ,,,,,but knowing golfers its as much about prestige and their standing in the community as anything else,,,,,,as my wife always says golf is a game that gives a ordinary man a sense of prominence ,,,i wish i was a member of that club ,,,,they would pay me to leave,,,,oh ,,oh ,,oh

Yeah right. £42,500 joining fee plus £3,340 green fees and they ask you to keep of the grass so that some Z-lister can get married on it!!?? Golf courses aren't for weddings and I hope the members stand their ground. Or if he wants Mr. Desmond can compensate each and every member for their inconvenience.

I'd love to be swinging my club on the course (or should that be on the Corrs) that day but wouldn't know whether to shout Four or Phwoar. Andrea is smoking hot. Andrea if you're reading this - it is still not too late to back out and elope with me.
