So the BT is still persisting with the myth that the Twelfth is somehow a festival for all - even though the Orange Order is a blatantly sectarian organisation.

Wise up.

Someone should send these photos to Leinster House and the next time Robinson goes down begging for money for roads in the six counties, these should be shown to him and he should be told where to go.

Also am I alone in thinking that these photos are not the sort of thing the B Telegraph should be featuring given its claim that it is a cross community paper?

Just flicked through the photos. Irish flags being burnt. Fires out of control requiring firemen to attend. Police having to confiscate alcohol. Drums with UFF logos painted on them and other loyalist terrorist paraphernalia. Men covered in tattoos and wearing dark glasses. Great celebration of culture guys. A real family outing that people from sections of the community can enjoy - right? Disgusting that a newspaper even gives coverage to this and tries to dress it up as a fun family event. Guess you think these people are role models? Stay classy Northern Ireland.

Tommy Hall, Are you from planet earth ?
You speak of "intolerance" etc .When I lived in London in the mid 60s I met dozens of Ulstermen who's crime was that they were Catholic and thus had no hope of finding a job at home.Either you are very young, or have a short and highly selective memory.

Your "innocent revelry" is underscored by blind hatred - hence the "in your face" posturing in Catholic areas. Go where you are welcome and by all means enjoy your revelry. But innocent it is not.

Not good to see the Irish flags being burnt on the bonfire and especially being displayed in the Belfast Telegraph. I thought they were making good progress. If it is a cultural festival, then what is the need to cause offence by burning Irish flags? Sectarianism is rife!

intolerance is rife, and apartheid against protestants ongoing. The threat of violence will not deter us, only makes us stronger, and for the hundredth time, the road is the main road, we are not 'walking through' ardoyne. It is the main route for the meeting of four roads. Nationalists need to grow up, wise up and get on with life and stop going out of their way to get offended. Also, the policing bill should be paid by republicans, their so called 'stewards' and 'communiy workers'. None of which are involved in sinn fein ira of course.

Gearoid, can I ask you to answer a simple question for me? Did the Orange Order parade march through the Ardoyne estate or did it pass by the entrance to the estate on a main road used on a daily basis by people from all areas of North Belfast? I think you will find it was the latter and yet again bigots from the Ardoyne use violence to try and intimidate people returning home from a day out. Republicans of all hues are to blame - Sinn Fein created this monster but can no longer control it.

Maybe nationalists would have an easier time buying into the myth sold by unionists and many media outlets - including the BT - that the Twelfth is anything but a sectarian festival if the Orange Order didn't insist on coat trailing through nationalist communities.

If you want to stick on a bowler, bang a drum and profess your Britishness - knock yourself out.

Just don't insist on marching through nationalist communities to do it. Unless your culture necessitates offending others?

Northern Ireland is included in the UN Charter as a permanent member of the Security Council. Developing the province into a principality with a well run non democratic government can help provide balance and fairness on the council. Replacing the Northern Ireland Assembly with an unelected college of district ministers as public servents to administer referendum legislation can accomplish this, with the prince regent and First Ministers running the principality government.

Darrell
Without wishing to condone the actions of a few people in Ardoyne isn,t your definition of the troublemakers there as Nazis also a form of sectarianism?

For 20 years I lived opposite the Ardoyne shops. I did business with John Madill, Freddie Fusco, The Glenard Cafe, watched movies at the Forum. We never had any trouble with our Roman Catholic neighbours.
Ardoyne is Not a nationalist area.
The hooligans causing the recent trouble do not live anywhere near the shops. They are "bussed in" for the specific purpose of attacking innocent revellers.
We will never surrender to intolerence and violence. It only stiffens our resolve to not give an inch.

darrell you are clearly deluded. Opposition to parades is not sectarian apartheid -far from it. the issue is that many members of the OO have an entirely unjustified superiority complex dating back years when they and many protestants were chosen for jobs and housing over Catholics.
This 'superiority' has let to a belief that no-one else's opinions matter. Some big wig from the OO stated yesterday that Catholics/Nationalists need to RESPECT them. Why? Respect needs to be earned. Not automatic.

Having recently watched the news on UTV( Surely should be now called Orange TV) I cannot understand why our screens should be saturated with what appears to be yesterday evening,s broadcast.
Sectarianism is still rife in N.Ireland and all is well with the world.
Looking forward to the next all inclusive Orangefest.
Could only happen in N.Ireland. Reminded me of those democrats in Mississipi Burning. The parallels are frightening.

Hundreds of thousands of people out enjoying the 12th July parades and nobody causes any trouble except a few Nazis in Ardoyne who were so set on being offended that they were offended 2 hours before the small local parade arrived.

Opposition to Orange parades is a form of sectarian apartheid which some elements of nationalism is trying to establish in Northern Ireland and it must not be dressed up in any other way.
